Mailtrack works seamlessly with Gmail, but we understand that you may use another email client for email tracking in Outlook or Yahoo, for example. Mailtrack is only available to download as a Gmail email tracker extension through Chrome, or as an add-on for the Gmail Android and iOS app.
However, there is another way that you can use Mailtrack for email tracking in Outlook and other email clients — by using the Gmailify option included in Gmail.
You can use Mailtrack as an email tracker for other addresses, as long as they are rerouted through Gmail. Let's cover exactly how to do that.
Use Gmailify to connect Gmail and Mailtrack to other email clients
Here's what you need to do to set up Gmailify in a desktop browser:
- Get a Gmail account (if you don't already have one): To use Gmailify, you need to have a Gmail account. You can set one up for free. Don't worry, you can still use your Outlook or Yahoo email address with Gmailify. In other words, no one will ever know you are using a Gmail address.
- Navigate to account settings: Go to Gmail and click the gear icon, then click "See all settings." Then, click on "Accounts and Import."
- Add your other email account: Scroll to "Check mail from other accounts" and click "Add a mail account." Next, enter the address for your other account. Select "Link accounts with Gmailify," click Next, and then log in with your account credentials. When complete, you'll see "You've been Gmailified!"
Android users can use Gmailify by first adding a secondary email address in the Gmail app. Then, tap Settings, tap the non-Gmail account you want to link, and then click Link Account.
It is pretty much the same for iPhone users, too. You must first add another account in the Gmail app, then click Try Gmailify.
How Gmailify works with Mailtrack
Gmailify lets you send and receive from other email addresses within your Gmail account. For example, after you link your Outlook email, old and new Outlook messages will be shown in your Gmail inbox. Be aware that only messages are copied over, not categories or tags.
Outlook offers its own email tracking with read receipts, but their concept and technology are limited and unreliable.
Now, since you're getting emails in Gmail, you can use all of Gmail's settings and features. That means you can use Mailtrack for Outlook email tracking through Gmailify. Simply log in to Gmail and choose your Outlook email as the "From" address when composing a message.
You'll see new messages in Gmail that were sent to your Outlook email, and the mail tracker will work for these just as it does for your Gmail address. Now you don't have to wonder who opened your email when you're working with Outlook for Office 365, Yahoo, or any other popular provider available with Gmailify.
With Mailtrack, you get real-time email open notifications, link tracking, and more. Adding Gmailify's capabilities means this email tracking tool is as versatile as you need it to be.
More Gmailify tips
When you first set up Gmailify, you'll notice that you have more emails in your inbox. However, Gmail doesn't automatically sort these emails by your different addresses. They look the same as your other emails. That can make it a bit confusing to track emails between accounts.
So, after you put in your information and set up Gmailify, you should create a filter and label for your second email account. To do this, click on one of the emails sent to your other address. Click the three dots to the right of the reply arrow and then click Filter messages like this.
A filter window will pop up. Next, type your secondary email into the From field, and make sure everything else is blank. Click Create Filter. You'll see a list of selections. Click Apply a label and create a new label for your email address. Also in that list, select Also apply filter to __ conversations. This will include all the conversations Gmailify transferred over in the new label.
How to track emails with Outlook
With your account now synchronized with Gmail, you're ready for email tracking in Outlook just like all other Mailtrack Gmail users.
Just install Mailtrack in your Chrome browser and follow the instructions. We’ll let you know when someone opened an email by adding 2 green check marks next to that email in your sent mail folder.
